Scientists uncover heart disease's links to genetics
A STUDY into sudden cardiac deaths has revealed a genetic link researchers say can be used to prevent deaths of family at risk. The study, led by University of Sydney's Professor Chris Semsarian, investigated 490 cases of sudden cardiac death between 2010-12 among people aged one to 35 years. It found a cause of death in 60% of cases by reviewing information from autopsies, coronial and police reports. Blood analysis of the remaining cases found 27% had a genetic mutation.
